Passion Reaches Fever Pitch At The Theatre Royal With ‘After Miss Julie’

Throughout the week, Brighton’s Theatre Royal will be home to the compelling and erotic psychological thriller, After Miss Julie. Inspired by Strindberg’s 1888 masterpiece and set towards the end of world war 2, the wonderfully shrewd stage production is an intoxicating mix of psychodrama and class hierarchies.

Taking place during a summer ball, the story follows the beautiful daughter (Helen George) of the homeowner as she starts to flirt with her father’s handsome chauffeur. Indifferent to the presence of his fiancee, Miss Julie’s game-playing ignites into heated passion with devastating consequences.

Hot from her appearances in the much-loved Call the Midwife and Strictly Come Dancing, Helen George takes to the stage as the master’s flirtatious daughter. Under Anthony Bank’s brisk direction the newly jilted and already suicidal Julie is so desperate for love that Richard Flood’s John is swept up in her psychological whirlwind.
