Brighton Theatre Royal is set to welcome aerial spectacular, Flown – Pirates Of The Carabina to her historic stage this week, with a three-night run commencing on Thursday 22nd May.
Flown is a riotous, circus-style affair featuring wonderfully choreographed aerial performances set against a backdrop of comedic chaos. Performers fly through the air, spinning, and twisting with breath-taking athleticism, accompanied by a live soundtrack from the in-house musicians. There is however, one slight issue – none of the performers appear to be ready for the show. Farcical scenes ensue with performers getting caught in the rigging, hanging from fly-bars and even taking to the stage while still ironing a dress! This is a really refreshing mix of circus and contemporary theatre that invites the audience to marvel at the skill of the performers, while also brutally exposing the very real dangers of staging such a show. Is this carefully choreographed slapstick or the youthful incompetence of an up and coming new theatre company? You decide.
If you’re planning on going to see the show, why not make a real night of things and head to nearby Pinocchio for a delicious pre-show meal?
