The acerbic wit of stand-up, Stewart Lee, is the order of the day this weekend at Brighton Dome. The comedian arrives in Brighton tomorrow on the back of a hugely successful sell-out tour….and doesn’t he just hate it?
After discovering that tickets for his new show A Room With A Stew with a ‘face value’ of £22 were changing hands on sites like StubHub and Viagogo for up to £99, Lee publicly declared his disgust with the ‘ticket touts’, reigniting the age-old debate about re-selling and touting tickets. While there is no suggestion that any of the websites involved have actually broken any laws, this episode clearly riled the 46-year-old on moral grounds.
Of course, when Stewart Lee becomes angry he also becomes very, very funny; there are few stand-ups past or present that can match his scathing diatribes for sheer intensity.
Lee scrupulously takes aim at a variety of topics from modern life which he effortlessly deconstructs, exposing their inanity to his audience before mercilessly slaying whoever he perceives as the chief culprits with vitriolic rhetoric. This then, is no regular joke blower. When he’s in full flow, Lee brings to mind the very best comedian’s comedians of all time.
